Introducing Skills Coach Connect: A Simpler Way to Share Skills

I’ve always believed that growth doesn’t have to be complicated.
It just has to be intentional.

That mindset shaped the way I approach upskilling in the workplace. After talking to hundreds of colleagues about their learning journeys, one theme kept coming up: people wanted to grow, but didn’t always know where to start. They weren’t sure who to ask for help, and they didn’t want to feel like they were bothering someone.

So, I decided to build something to help. Something simple.
Something actionable.

The Birth of an Idea

After countless conversations, whiteboard sessions, and moments of reflection, Skills Coach Connect was born.

It’s a lightweight internal app designed to help people do one thing really well: connect with each other to learn. Whether you're looking to strengthen a technical skill or improve a leadership trait, sometimes the best resources aren’t websites or training modules. They’re the people sitting one desk over or one time zone away.

How It Works

Skills Coach Connect is easy to use and built with one goal in mind — making peer learning accessible to everyone. Here’s how it works:

💡 Create a coach profile.
Employees can identify themselves as a coach for skills they are comfortable teaching or mentoring others in.

💡 List skills they’re passionate about.
These can be as technical as Excel and Power BI, or as interpersonal as storytelling, emotional intelligence, or leading global teams. There’s no limit — just a willingness to share what you know.

💡 Connect with peers who want to learn.
Once profiles are built, anyone can browse and reach out to coaches who align with their learning goals. It turns our internal network into a vibrant space for skill-building and shared growth.

Learning Through People

Too often, we define learning as a course or a certification. Those tools absolutely have value, but they’re only part of the picture.

Some of the most impactful growth in my own career came not from structured training, but from real conversations. From someone taking 20 minutes to show me how they use Power BI. From watching a leader handle a difficult meeting with grace. From a peer giving me honest feedback on my presentation style.

That is the power of peer learning. It’s relational. It’s human. And it’s scalable, if you design it right.

A Culture of Sharing

Skills Coach Connect isn’t just a tool. It’s a reflection of a broader culture — one that values shared knowledge, informal mentorship, and generosity.

We all have something to teach, and we all have something to learn. When companies recognize that and make space for it, magic happens. Collaboration increases. Confidence grows. Teams become more adaptable.

And all of it starts with one small, intentional action: connecting.

What If You Built It Too?

If your company doesn’t have something like Skills Coach Connect, consider this a nudge.

You don’t need to build a complicated platform. You just need a way for people to say, “Here’s what I know,” and “Here’s what I’d love to learn.” Whether it’s a shared spreadsheet, a Teams channel, or a simple internal app, the value is in the connection.

People are more willing to teach and more eager to learn than we sometimes give them credit for. All they need is a space to meet.

So, what would it look like to build that space in your organization?
